Now Taking Applications

I can't be that mean to poor Dean (If you don't know what I am talking about, read the previous post). In my attempt to grow this blog and my wrestling career as big as possible, I am willing to concede that I can't do it all. I need to concentrate on my wrestling training posts, and Dean so nicely agreed to take on the DVD critic role, even if just on a trial basis, but I need more help. What I am trying to do is bring the three ring circus analogy to this blog, and my career. That is, in a three ring circus there is something for everybody, if you don't like the trapeze artists, you might like the lion show. If you don't like the lions, maybe the clowns are more your thing. I want this blog to have something for everybody. So if I have Dean on wrestling critic detail, me on the actual becoming a professional wrestler detail, then I would like to ad a roving reporter-first with all the news and reviews. I also need someone from Europe to report on the wrestling scene there. I want to ad a veteran professional wrestler for news from the inside. So if you want to be a part of this, contribute a small sample of your writing to: abruptgreatonex1@yahoo.com. For the veteran professional wrestler position please also email how long you have been wrestling, and a list of the promotions you have worked for, and any interesting facts you think might go good in your column. There is no deadline, but I urge all who are interested to do so as soon as possible as I don't know how fast these positions will be filled. I just hope I am not humbled and don't receive any submissions! Just for FYI, this blog is doing good and taking off, in three months there have been over 1000 visits, and I AM going to wrestling school, for which I will make it all the way to the top. Don't let this chance of being a part of greatness pass you by!

Promotion Announcement

Dean Simon, "The Making Of A Wrestling GOD's" tech guy is hereby being promoted to wrestling DVD critic guy. I had to pick up the slack in the technical department as of late, and since he is listed as a contributor on this blog, he very well is going to contribute something, darn it! He has another blog, Farmer In The Deli, and I am very impressed with his writing so far, so I have no doubt that he will make quite a nice inclusion to my otherwise boring commentary. I kind of got away from reporting on my progress in the making it as a professional wrestler as of late do to my sitting around convalescing from being blood clotted, so it is my hope that I can get back to that, and have Dean offer other insightful wisdom in the wrestling world. He just don't know that part yet, so shhh everyone, don't tell him until I get the chance to break the news to him. Poor Deans workload is about to pick up!

William "Refrigerator" Perry
Usually I do the work of researching the facts on the subject matter, but for some reason I feel exceptionally lazy today, so the following bio on the '"Fridge" was taken blatently and verbatim from wwe.com:

Name: William Perry

Height: 6 foot 2
Weight: 375 pounds
From: Aiken, South Carolina
Career Highlights: Eliminated Big John Studd and Tony Atlas in the WrestleMania 2 Battle Royal, Super Bowl XX Champion
WWE Debut: WrestleMania 2

WrestleMania is often referred to as the Super Bowl of sports-entertainment, so who better to be inducted into the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame than Chicago Bears’ Super Bowl Champion William “The Refrigerator” Perry.

Simply known as The Fridge to many of his adoring fans, the Super Bowl Champion defensive lineman made his mark on WWE at WrestleMania 2 at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago in the first-ever WWE Superstar and NFL Player Battle Royal. Joining the likes of Bret “Hit Man” Hart, Bruno Sammartino, The Iron Sheik and Andre the Giant were several football players. Many didn’t think that the football players would stand a chance against the giants of the squared circle, but if anyone had a chance, it was The Fridge. Additionally, since The Fridge was one of the most popular players to ever play for the Bears, he also had the home field advantage.

Before the match even started, The Fridge seemed to pick out his primary target: WWE Hall of Famer Big John Studd. The Fridge isn’t used to being the smaller man, but Studd did have a size advantage over the master of the gridiron. Amidst all of the chaos during the match, Studd did manage to eliminate Perry over the top rope. But The Fridge wasn’t about to leave quietly. He extended his hand for a handshake, seemingly to acknowledge the better man had won. Studd reached out to Perry, but once their hands met, The Fridge pulled the WWE Hall of Famer over the top rope, eliminating him. The Fridge had outsmarted Studd.

Eliminating one WWE Hall of Famer in a battle royal on the grandest stage of them all is an impressive accomplishment in itself. But before being eliminated by Studd, The Fridge also managed to eliminate another Class of 2006 WWE Hall of Fame inductee, Tony Atlas. Eliminating two WWE Hall of Famers in one WrestleMania is a feat that no celebrity will probably ever match.

Perry’s WrestleMania accomplishment is one that few will forget, but his accomplishments in the NFL are just as impressive. The Fridge burst onto the scene in the NFL as a first round draft pick by the Bears in 1985. He immediately impressed with his defensive line play, but he also had the unique opportunity to play on offense on occasion. In fact, The Fridge was even called upon during Super Bowl XX to run the ball, and he made the most of it, rumbling through a crowd of defenders and into the end zone for a touchdown.

Also, it was announced by WWE that the current RAW Play-By-Play announcer, Joey Styles, will not be announcing this years Wrestlemania, but rather good 'ol JR will be doing the honors. It is thought by WWE higher ups that Joey needs a bit more work and polish in the storytelling department, and this years Wrestlemania is meant to be studied and learned from by Mr Styles. For an in depth interview and information with Joey, go to WWE.Com for the whole scoop.

Breaking Hall Of Fame News

According to Bella Onlines wrestling editor Patty Therre, Bret Hart will not be making an appearance at this years Wrestlemania. Vince MacMahon has tried desperately to get Bret to appear for some time at the Wrestlemania show in some fashion, but Bret has steadfastly refused, even to go so far and saying that his only promise is to show up a the Hall of Fame ceremony, but that he would even walk out on that if he even sees Shawn Michaels in the audience. For those of you who don't know, Bret and Shawn DO NOT get along due to a long running feud between the two, culminating in the infamous Montreal Screw Job incident. Some people feel that Bret, in agreeing to be inducted to the WWE HOF, is selling himself out because of the above mentioned situation, for which case Bret has said he doesn't feel guilty in wanting to be remembered. At any rate, Bret is scheduled to fly out of Chicago early on Sunday morning, hours before Wrestlemania is to take place. For those of you who are interested, the last hour of the Hall of Fame ceremony will be airing on the USA network at 11 p.m. April 1. The first two hours of the ceremony will be streamed on the WWE website so you won't have to miss a minute of the show if you have a high speed connection. The last hour will be the induction of Bret and probably the late Eddie Guerrero. Look for most of the roster to be in attendance. Shawn Michaels has stated that he won't be in attendance, however, if Bret feels that strongly about him not being there, which he does. I, for one, feel that Bret deserves his rightful place along the other greats in the HOF, but I would be lying if I said that is what I am looking forward to the most. I will not miss the HOF induction of my wrestling hero, Eddie Guerrero! VIVA LA RAZA!

At a glance: Colonel and the Playboy

Time for another update on "The making of a Wrestling GOD", and this time I think I will talk about who happens to be attempting to train me.

The technical information on Playboy Buddy Rose is that he was trained in the famous "Barn" of Verne Gagne and Billy Robinson, the same school that graduated such stars as Ric Flair, Sgt Slaughter, the Iron Shiek and The late great Chris Taylor, just to name a few. (Chris Taylor is a local legend in my hometown of Muskegon, MI as he wrestled collegiatly at Muskegon Community College in the early 70's before he went on to Iowa, the Olympics, then the pro's.) In his career that, so far, has spanned the last thirty years or so he has wrestled for the AWA, the WWE and in the Pacific Northwest (Portland). Some of his title reigns are:
*2 time NWA Canadian Tag Team Champion
*1 time NWA Pacific Coast (Vancouver) Heavyweight Champion
*8 time NWA Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Champion
*12 time NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Champion
*2 time NWA US Heavyweight Champion (San Francisco)
*2 time NWA World Tag Team Champion (San Francisco)
Buddy was known for his skill on the mic, and his ability to take some of the best bumps in the business. According to the questions and answers section of his website, during his last run with the WWE, Jimmy Hart and himself came up with this idea for a gimmick that really took off. In the gimmick the ring announcer would announce Buddy's weight at 271 lbs, only to have the Playboy interrupt and announce his weight as a "slim trim 217". Yes, the era of the infamous blow away diet was born! I don't really know Buddy all that well, I see him one day a week and it's not like we chit chat about life in general, but if you read my post about Cameron Star and first impressions (I hope you all realize I was just trying to draw some heat, Camerons a pretty neat kid...For a Hawaiian) My first impression of Buddy was nothing but solid.
I find that professional wrestlers are, in fact, walking talking cartoon characters. That is it takes a character, a strong personality, to be successful in this business, and Buddy is definitely that. He is a very nice man, and I feel honored that he has taken me under the wing to train me. There, that aught to be good for a couple free weeks of class! Anyway, as I have written in past posts, another fact of great interest is that Buddy Wrestled in the very first match of the very first Wrestlemania against Tito Santana. That night he wrestled under a red mask as the Executioner. He was so respected by WWE that they didn't want the fans to see Buddy lose so they put a mask on him to try and keep what is now one of the worst kept secrets in the business, and that was that he was the Executioner. Another interesting fact is that he was managed by Sensational Sherri Martell, one of this years inductees to the WWE Hall of Fame.

The real world Ed Wiskoski, better known to the wrestling world as Colonel DeBeers, has a very colorful wrestling background as well. Early on he was known by several names, including Easy Ed Wiskoski, Mega Maharishi and the Polish Prince. In college Colonel was a very devastating defensive tackle who went on to play for the Cincinnati Bengals of the NFL until the wrestling bug came calling. Colonel Debeers was trained by the legendary Harley Race and the trainer of the midget wrestlers, Lord Littlebrook in the early 70's. A brief side note here: Umm, Mr Race, if I am so fortunate for you to be reading this, a previous post I wrote sounded critical of you, and I apologize, that was not my intention. I was intending on showing you that I plan on bucking the odds and making it in the wrestling world, (The self professed second best wrestler never to make the big time, the KING of the bingo halls) against your opinion that I won't because I don't meet the criteria of superstar great shape as you put it, and I am over the age of 21. So, if I am ever wrestling in MO, don't hurt me, I beg of you. Well, that is unless I wrestle for your promotion, then by all means, let the size of the pain match the size of my check. And unlike Mick Foley, I WILL let you bust my eyebrow open!
Ok, back to Colonel (Sorry Colonel, just trying to kiss a little butt there). In the early 80's Colonel wrestled for Leroy McGuirk out of Tulsa, OK. He was known as Easy Ed Wiskoski then, and he was managed by Skandor Akbar, and he feuded with Tommy and Eddie Gilbert. He reached the wrestling masses, however, when he wrestled in the mid 80's for the AWA as Colonel DeBeers, a character portrayed to be from South Africa, and very rich from gold and diamond mining. Some of the titles he earned were:
*NWA Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Champion
*NWA Pacific Northwest Television Champion
*2 time NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Champion
*NWA Australian Tag Team Champion
*NWA Southern Heavyweight Champion
*NWA Central States Heavyweight Champion
*3 time NWA San Francisco Tag Team Champion
*NWA San Francisco United States Champion
*Championship Wrestling USA Television Champion

I remembering the first time I met Colonel. I walked into the school, and he was in the middle of coaching the students in the ring, but he kind of turned them over to wrestling matches, and came over to me. Now, what most likely happened was that I just happened along during the right time, or Colonel was genuinely wanting to meet his new student. He spent some time going over some of the basics with me right away, and he has been nothing but supportive ever since. The man is a very good teacher, he has a way of telling you that you screwed up in such a way that the sting don't hurt all that bad! He goes over the matches with us, tells me what I did good more then what I messed up on, and that is a great way to teach, at least for me. I remember when he was teaching me how to lock up, we must have locked up over twenty times in a row, and when he was satisfied that I got that down he acted like a proud poppa! I don't know how many wrestling matches I have coming in my career, but I do know that every time I wrestle I will remember that day he showed me how to do it right, and I still chuckle when I remember how he would grimace and say under his breath "come here you little sum a b*tch" as he locked onto my collar and elbow. He is one of the nicest men you'll ever meet, a complete difference from his Colonel DeBeers character, and I am honored that I am learning hands on from a true wrestling great. To sit back, before class, and hear the stories that man has to offer, they are all funny, but once again he is teaching as he goes. For anyone that wants to wrestle, you could do a lot worse then having Colonel DeBeers teach you the ropes. I know I will be a better wrestler because of him. (A couple more free classes?)
Well, that should do it. For those of you that are interested, go to http://www.playboybuddyrose.com There you can find out more information about the Playboy and Colonel, the wrestling school, and purchase great merchandise from autographed pictures to DVD's to God knows what else, but must haves for the true wrestling collector.

Looking, Looking...There You Are, Cameron Star

The last time I was at wrestling school (seems like ages ago as I write this) I was fortunate enough to run into Mr Cameron Star. Now I have seen some of Camerons work, mostly from the WAPW show that was put on last April, and I do have to admit that for a pudgy kid, he did pretty good. Nothing against pudge, I fight that demon everyday myself. However, he was moving around, taking and giving armdrags, and landing rather lightly and doing an overall good job. His highspot even consisted of him ascending to the top rope and doing a backflip into a splash. For those of you who would like to see Cameron at work, click this link VIDEO SAMPLE. Anyway, seeing is believing in most cases, until you meet the man himself.
They say the first impression that one makes is the most important one. That is it is awfully hard to change ones perception of yourself, even if the impression someone got off of you is way, way off. When I first saw Cameron, he showed up to the school rather late and just hung around chatting with Colonel DeBeers and Buddy Rose, whilst I was in the ring working on something or other. Halfway during class I tagged out and decided to get a drink at the desk where Buddy was sitting through, with a rather pained expression, something Mr Star was saying. When I am not wrestling, I like to listen to anything Colonel or Buddy has to say, I try to glean off even the slightest pearl of wisdom they may have to offer. However, as I was saying, Cameron was talking. And Talking. And TALKING! My goodness, it wouldn't have been so bad if the kid had something to say! As I remember he was talking about his training regimen, and how it mirrors the Iron Shiek, or some danged thing. The Iron Shiek was known for swinging the Persian Clubs, from what I understand a very hard and gut wrenching training routine. However Cameron, from what I got from the conversation, billed from Hawaii, swings the five gallon water jugs and climbing trees with bare feet to grab the coconuts. I remember sitting there thinking "he must be kidding, right?" Well, I quickly found out he is quite the character. He went into this one story where hewas wrestling someone, and the action spilled out of the ring. He had grabbed one of his water jugs (he carries them to the ring), and proceeds to wind back to deliver a KO blow to his opponent. Well, from what I heard, his opponent ducked while Cameron was in mid swing, and he ended up clocking some poor older lady that was sitting in the stands directly behind them. Cameron said she kind of slumped over with her head down, then, while unconscious, slid ever so gracefully off of her seat and onto the floor. The cardinal rule when you are wrestling is that "THE SHOW MUST GO ON!" If you happen to get injured during a match, grit your teeth and carry on, you have a match to finish. If some fan decides to participate in the festivities and jump in the ring, you drop him, and carry on. If the referee happens to have a heart attack in the middle of your match, what do you do? That's right, carry on. If you clock some old lady who is behind the barricade minding her own business you...Stop the match and see if she is ok, and hope to hecdk she don't sue! I guess you had to have been there, but it was funny to hear him tell it.
So, for those of you who are keeping score, I got off a somewhat so-so impression when I first met Cameron. That impression gave way to a not very good one as I heard him talk forever about absolutely nothing, but immediately went to "Hey, I like this guy!" when I heard of the old lady getting knocked the hell out by his wayward water jug. Oh, but guess what he say's next that puts him back down a peg or two with me? As I sit there he asks who the hell I am, Buddy Rose tells him. Buddy says that I am relatively new, but doing very good. At which point Cameron says, to no one in particular, "I don't wrestle anyone who I haven't seen wrestle for at least six months." Now, I can understand, to a point, why a wrestler might not be so wild about wrestling someone new to the sport. It is very dangerous to do what we do, and when we put our bodies in the hands of someone else, one bad mistake can end your career. Or your life for that matter. However taking that "idiotoligy" into consideration, how in the world would any wrestler get his start? The Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mick Foley and any other respected superstar had to start sometime. They all had to wrestle a first match. I don't know, maybe I am just over sensitive. Or maybe I just think it's ludicrous that some punk kid who isn't known anywhere outside of the greater Portland, OR area comes in acting like he is a world class superstar, and has anything on the likes of 'Taker, Stone Cold Or Mrs' Foley's baby boy. So, Cameron, I can't wait to tie up with you. I give to you an open challenge, any time, any place any where, as long as there is a paying crowd and concessions!

The G/F Letter, As Promised

"OMFG IN HEAVEN OH REALLY YOU THINK YOU WILL BE OUT OF WRESTLING FOR 2 MONTHS???? YOU DUMBAZZ! I WOULD THINK BEING SO ILL AND ALL YOU COULD POSSIBLY SPARE MORE THEN 2 MONTHS TO RECOUP YOURSELF INSTEAD OF BASICALLY KILLING YOURSELF! (YOUR BODY, AFTER WHAT ITS BEEN THROUGH, NEEDS MORE THEN 2 MONTHS) THE FACT THAT YOU HOLD WRESTLING SO HIGH & ME SO LOW SAYS ALOT!!!! I'M IN HELL BECAUSE OF THIS I HAVE WANTED TO CLIMB UNDER THE BIGGEST ROCK I COULD FIND, STARVED MYSELF, WANTED TO DIE, CRIED MY EYES OUT ECT BUT WRESTLING, HEY CANT SKIP THAT! WRESTLINGS A GOD OVER YOUR G\F & YOU DONT EVEN SEE IT. (F*CK IT I SEE IT & WHERE YOU STAND OH GREATONE) HUMMM ILL CALL UP THAT KING OF YOURS & GIVE HIM A PIECE OF MY MIND!((speaking of Buddy Rose here, I found out she doesn't have his number, and it isn't listed under his name in my phone anyway, it is hidden under something else.)) (SINCE I'VE BASICALLY LOST WHAT LITTLE I SEEM TO HAVE LEFT ANYWAYS) (& YEAH, I DO HAVE HIS # FROM WHEN YOU LEFT YOUR PHONE HERE)~~~ KEIDI"

I tried to clean that email up a bit, but I thought it was important that you see it for what it was. She is very upset with me over all this, and that is just natural I suppose. I have heard wrestlers from across the gamut say that wrestling and relationships do not go hand in hand. There are wrestlers out there who are in long term marriages and relationships, however a lot of them met their G/F and/or spouse after they were already wrestling, so the significant other already knew what he/she was in for. I, on the other hand~and with keeping with not doing ANYTHING the normal nor easy way, got myself into a long term relationship (forever, right honey?) before I got into this wrestling thing. And, I am not even a wrestler yet. (Well, I never will be, remember, I am and always will be just a fan that wrestles.) But this endeavor is making life hell for her, and no, it isn't fair. And no I will not stop. Until I am either retired or in a wheel chair, or decide that I am tremendously stupid for doing all this for pennies a night, I will continuously keep plugging away at my dream.

Let me introduce you to Keidi.

If my world is a flat, yet interestingly populated landscape, Keidi is the tornado that turns it all upside down and inside out. She is, by far, the most interesting, to say the least, G/F I have ever had. She sees the world through rose colored glasses in a lot of way's, yet there is a bit of fatalism in other parts of her psyche as well. In short, she is a walking, talking contradiction, and I love her dearly. If she makes up her mind to a certain fact, forget about it, that's the way it is. It doesn't matter if you have a history book, twenty-five Rhodes Scholars and the President of the United States in your corner, if you are wrong in her eyes, you're wrong. But with that said, I do have to admit, there is truth in everything she says. For instance if she said the sky was green, you can believe it because BLUE (with just a hint of yellow) makes~you guessed it, green. That is an inside joke, and an attempt to get you to understand what I mean. She is fiercely loyal to her Oglala Sioux heritage, and I know she is mad when she refers to me as "white boy" even though I can lay claim to Native heritage as well. That, in a nutshell, is my Keidi.

Some may say that if I loved Keidi, I would stop wrestling since it is very hard on her. Face it, in a few short months I have been hospitalized twice, and with the last one, pretty lose to having died with these blood clots. Thanks to them, I now have the next six months to look forward to with having to take blood thinners. I don't have a lot of time invested in wrestling yet, so why not just go back to being the couch potato fan I was in the beginning? It was much safer that way. Well, I was hospitalized, true, but these were non-wrestling related events. I have told Keidi that these were not wrestling related hospital visits, of course she ain't buying it, but it's true. But, even if they were...I have a dream. I want to see just how far I can go with this, and I am having the time of my life when I am in there. I get to meet some of the people I watch on TV wrestling, and I get to interact with them, not as a fan, but as one of the boys. It's hard to explain, you have heard of the "community" or the "family" feeling they talk about? Well, it's there in me, and I can't give it up. I AM going to wrestle, even if it kills me. I have always wanted to do this, and now, in my life, I have the chance to pursue it, I can't quit now if I tried.

So, what do you all think? Am I a selfish prick, or am I doing what I need to do, for me? Keidi did have me before wrestling, now she has to share me with the masses, is that wrong? (That statement was just WRONG, but I got a kick out of it) Let me know what you think! Maybe we will get a good debate going. That's the only thing I can do for the next TWO months, until I get back to the ring.

SNME

Last night the long awaited Saturday Night's Main Event made it's much anticipated return to NBC. So, since I am sitting here a cripple for awhile and unable to train, I need something to talk about, and this seems like as good a thing as any.

SNME saw the return of good ole' JR. When he left Raw I will have to admit I missed the announcing team of Ross and Lawler, but if you remember how he left, getting beat up and fired by the McMahons, his return was somewhat confusing. No mention was made of the firing incident, and it was pretty much business as usual, and that was nice, for a change.

JOHN CENA & TRIPLE H vs. REY MYSTERIO, RANDY ORTON & KURT ANGLE (Handicap match)

This was the opening match to kick off SNME. I will have to admit that it was mildly entertaining seeing Triple HHH team with Cena, but the word team was short lived. The good guys on both sides wrestled like good guys, the heels as heels, and the whole debacle ended when HHH pedigreed Cena and pulled Randy Orton onto him for the pin. Of course Rey Mysterio didn't want to win that way, so he pulled Orton off of Cena, which earned him a pedigree from HHH. Angle then clothslined HHH over the top rope, Orton delivered the RKO to Angle, and then he attempted the RKO on Cena, Cena reversed it into a schoolboy for the pin. I know, what in the heck, right? Well, on Raw this past Monday you saw Triple HHH square off against Cena, which saw Randy Orton interfere on HHH's behalf, then on SNME you saw HHH pick Orton to cover Cena for the pin. HMMMM, are these two superstars in cahoots with each other? Ones on Raw, the others on Smackdown. But is there something there? Stay tuned.

Booker T vs The Boogeyman

Well, to quote my brother's favorite saying when we were kids "Everyone in this room as that much more STUPIDER for having to watch that", I can only second that sentiment. If the Undertaker's character and entrance music sends shivers down the average persons spine, the Boogeyman's schtick has the complete opposite effect. I don't like the Boogeyman, I think he was packaged and delivered all wrong, and the poor guy portraying him is throwing his career away on a second rate cartoon character. The WWE should have aligned him with the Undertaker somewhere when they brought him in, that way he would have been more legitimate. Ok, since I got that off my chest, Booker was to face the Boogeyman at SNME, but he claimed to have twisted his knee, so the doctor made Teddy Long call the match off. A later segment in the show showed Booker and Sharmell laughing and dancing and bragging how they pulled off "the oldest trick in the Book" (pardon the pun), when the Boogeyman made another impromptu appearance, scaring Sharmell and Booker so much they took of running and screaming down the hallways. Teddy Long then made the Boogeyman/Booker match for Wrestlemania. Stupid. Absolutely stupid.

Did I mention STUPID?

THAT WAS SO STUPIDER I CAN'T STAND IT.

EDGE and LITA on "The Cutting Edge"
special guest Mick Foley

This segment saw the return of "The Cutting Edge" where the guest was Mick Foley. I loved this segment, the only thing wrong was Foley didn't speak. I think it was to show that Foley had enough of Edge, and actions speak louder then words. Mick brought a bag of tacks to the show and Edge set the table on fire. After the security guards, who just happened to be standing at the ready with fire extinguishers in hand, put the fire out, Foley dumped the tacks and began to beat down Edge. For those of you who don't know, the bag of 10,000 tacks schtick was originated into popular wrestling (I am not comfortable in stating Foley was the absolute first originator of it) by Mick Foley. He used it in several Hard Core matches in ECW, Japan, and it was a favorite with him and Terry Funk when they wrestled. Terry took backdrops onto tacks, as did Foley. However, you didn't expect pretty boy badboy Edge to take a bump on 'em, did you? Puh leez. So it was a given Mick took the bump, but he continued to beat down Edge, the fight left the ring and moved up the ramp where Mick momentarily stunned Edge enough to deliver his own "conCHAIRto to Edges head, returning the favor to Edge. This was the best of the night, in my opinion.

STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN and JBL
in a gold ole' beer drinking contest
This one was fun to watch as it brought back Stone Cold Steve Austin to TV. The premise was silly, but both he and JBL traded funny adlibbed lines, before, you guessed it, they both started to throw beer on each other. Austin delivered the stunner to JBL and dumped about 100 and a half pitchers of beer on him. A really funny sidenote here, JBL told Austin he was forced to cross the "river into Canada to get some decent beer" and Austin, for a moment, looked genuinely shocked and appalled. GO STEVE!!! (No offense to my Canadian fans, Canadian beer is good too, when you are in Canada).

MICKIE JAMES & TRISH STRATUS vs. VICTORIA & CANDICE

Trish Stratus wrestled the whole match, Trish won the match. Mickey tried to kiss Trish, Trish turned her cheek. Mickey tried to hug Trish, Trish pulled away from Mickey. Mickey get's mad and turns on Trish. FINALLY. Hey, normally I am the last guy to object to a couple of hot chicks caught up in a love feud, but this Trish Stratus Mickey James thing has run a bit long. So I am glad to see the staleness get aired out and we get to see Mickey and Trish actually...wrestle. Wow, what a concept.

MARK HENRY & DAIVARI

Mark Henry and Daivari both came out, and Mark Henry called out the Undertaker, who of course obliged. After a short brawl that saw the Undertaker kick Henry in the face, sending him over the rail into the stands, the Undertaker chokeslammed Daivari ONTO the casket that was brought to the ring by the druids, and then tombstoned on top of it. This short segment was to bring a little more heat to the Wrestlemania casket match between Henry and 'Taker. Kind of left you with an empty feeling in the pit of your stomach on this one.

HBK SHAWN MICHAELS vs. SHANE MCMAHON in a STREET FIGHT

This one was meant to mirror the infamous Montreal screw job. After a pretty entertaining match that saw some decent high spots, Michaels hit Sweet Chin Music on Shane, but as the referee was making the three count, Vince McMahon pulled the referee from the ring. As Michaels, who by this time has had it with the meddling that the McMahons have been perpetrating against him the last month or so, grabbed Vince by the scruff of his neck and was getting ready to perpetrate some violence of his own against the boss, Shane nails him from behind, and then applied the sharp shooter to Michaels. Vince then calls for the time keeper to ring the bell, replicating EXACTLY the famous incident in Montreal with Bret Hart.

Now, with the induction of Bret into this years HOF, I don't understand why WWE is doing this. Bret was legitimately screwed, and there are real hard feelings there over it. Bret agreed to be inducted to the Hall of Fame, as is his rightful place, but he refuses to be compensated in any way for his appearance at Wrestlemania (where he plans on saying good-bye to his fans). So it's like on one hand WWE is saying, hey, no matter what happened in the past, you deserve to be in the HOF, we want to induct you, we will be honored to do this for you. On the other, they are replaying the very thing that brought the relationship of WWE and Bret Hart to a close in the first place. It's like they are trying to piss Bret Off enough for him to say screw it and not show up. I love the WWE, I love the character Bret Hart, but I wouldn't blame Bret if he said "SCREW YOU" to WWE.

And once again, most of the layout for this post was ripped off directly and blatantly from Patty Therre and Bella Online. Thanks Patty!

Dying To Be In The Main Event

This is what happened to me.

About three weeks ago I noticed that I had a funny feeling in my right knee. Since I went to wrestling the day before, I just thought I tweaked it a little bit. Over the next several days I tried putting a brace on my knee, which did alleviate the pain, but you can only wear them for so long. When I took the brace off I noticed the pain came back, but this time all over my leg. So I went to wrestling again the next weekend and due to the fact that I wrap my leg before I wrestle I didn't notice anything until later after I unwrapped it, the pain was from my ankle to my upper thigh and it hurt with every beat of my heart. So, instead of going to the hospital I just thought I needed to take it easy a bit, but then the wind in my lungs started to go and I knew something was wrong. Literally overnight I couldn't walk anything faster then a shuffle without my heart beating out of my chest and a strong feeling to just pass out. STILL I didn't go to the doctor. My friends, my family, even the most important person in my life, my girl friend couldn't get me to go. But last Sunday I couldn't take it anymore so I went into the emergency room and I ended up staying for a couple day's. I don't know how, I don't know why but somehow I developed blood clots in my right leg that ended up breaking up and going to my lungs. Those are known as pulmonary embolisms, and they can be deadly. In fact, I was told by the doctors that I could have, and still might die if any of them decided to go to my heart and brain.

To make this long story short, if there is not a specific reason why this happened I am expected to make a full recovery. At this point I am injecting myself twice daily with a medicine called Lovenox, and I am taking Warfarin, generic for Coumadin, rat poison none the less, and I will be on that for the next six months. If it is discovered that I am genetically predisposed to blood clots now, I can be on it for the rest of my life, but let's hope not. The doctors forbade me to wrestle for two months while this blood clot dissolves, if I wrestle now there stands a chance a chunk breaks loose and heads to other parts of my body where death would be the nasty result.

My girlfriend is just sure that wrestling is the culprit behind this health issue, in my next post I will share an email I got from her, it is quite colorful. I will still introduce you to Cameron Star, and there is a ton of other wrestling things to cover while I convalesce here. But I already can't wait til I get back to the wrestling ring.

And the hits just keep on coming...

I have been having some health issues lately, that is why there haven't been many updates. I just got out the hospital again due to some blood clots that formed in my right leg and traveled to my lung. Short of the long story, I am now on blood thinners for the next six months, with wrestling out for at least two. I will keep you all posted with my progress, and I hope to be up and running really soon.

Class Update 03-05-06

This week at school I could really tell the time off didn't do me any good. I guess the first thing that struck me was what little wind I had. This pneumonia really threw my lungs for a loop, after just one minute I felt like I was running the Boston Marathon. My lungs were literally on fire, and afterwards my body was telling me I am still in pretty rough shape, more on that later. I could only wrestle for two minutes at a time, after that I was so spent it was effecting my concentration to the point that I couldn't remember anything. For instance I was working with Chris Payne in a match. We were in a corner and he called a spot where he was going to whip me to the opposite post, and he was going to follow me in with a shoulder to the mid section. I was supposed to get out of the way and roll him up with a schoolboy for the pin. He whipped me in, and when I hit the turnbuckles I felt a searing pain in the right side of my back, down deep in my lungish area...
He came charging in and I didn't get out of the way, I basically fell out of the way, but not all that fast and we brushed each other pretty good. I was on the mat and I reached up to grab him by the waist and pull him over in the schoolboy, but I didn't have the strength for a second to do it. I mean it, my body went to jelly. Finally he took it upon himself to fall back, and I effected the move for the win. But that was it, I was done physically for a little while, so I took a couple of matches off and watched. I was involved in a tag match at the beginning of class, and I wasn't doing so good. The timing wasn't there, there was no pop to my moves, and it started to effect everyone else involved in the match because they had to slow down so I could keep up, and that threw them off. I couldn't blame anyone for not wanting to wrestle me yesterday. I even screwed up the very basic headlock takeover. Colonel DeBeers went over it again with me, and that was embarrassing because that is as basic as you can get. Other then reff' ing a match or two I was done for the day except for the traditional class ending battle royal, this time with a round robin format. I pinned Nate the Great in thirty seconds (he wanted out of there, or away from my lackluster wrestling, I haven't decided which yet). I then wrestled Collin, and he submitted me, that was class.

However....

As I said earlier that my lungs took a beating, I am mildly concerned because I have the early symptoms of pneumonia again. Shortness of breath. Sharp pain when I expand my lungs too far. I felt these sensations on the drive home from Portland, so I called my sister, who works at a hospital, and I asked her what she thought of the matter. It seems funny my lungs felt fine until I worked them out, did this trigger some pneumonia that was lying dormant to raise it's ugly head? She seems to be of the opinion that the pneumonia may be gone, but where there was pneumonia a couple of weeks ago, the lungs are still very injured, and all I might have done was irritate the spots that are obviously not healed. I guess I am now in wait and see mode, the pneumonia better not be back, if it is, then I feel that there is something way wrong other then pneumonia, something that might derail my wrestling career before it gets off the ground. Please cross your fingers. Well, I am dozing off at the keyboard here, so I figure on closing this out. However I have another post about a wrestler I met this weekend, Cameron Star. Tomorrow I'll introduce you all to Mr Star, trust me, he is a character that you want to meet!

Going Back To School

I just wanted everyone to know that I am going back to wrestling school this weekend. Although I have a little less wind then I had before this pneumonia bug hit, I do feel a lot better, and let's all keep our fingers crossed that it doesn't come back. I just hope I haven't been gone too long so that I am really rusty when I step through the ropes. I will do my best, and will give you all a complete class update when I get back.

Wrestling DVD Review

I just recently watched the DVD "Road Warriors: The life and death of the most dominant tag team in wrestling history" from WWE Home Video. The Road Warriors are probably hands down my favorite wrestling team of all time. This dvd does a really nice job chronicling the Legion of Doom from it's inception to the present, although it was put together after the untimely passing of Road Warrior Hawk. Road Warrior Animal does a really nice walk through of the piece, he takes you to old haunts where he and Hawk used to work, the gym in Minneapolis where they got together with some other future wrestling stars like Barry Darsow, and he walks you through the early days and doesn't pull any punches to the demons they both fought throughout their over 20 year career together. There is also nice commentary with Jim Cornette, Michael P. S. Hayes, Jim Ross, Edge and the LOD manager Precious Paul Ellering. This dvd also has several classic matches with the Road Warriors from their early days up through the LOD 2000 resurgence of a couple of years ago. As a special feature there is also an old music video from the eighties included, it is a real hoot to watch. You can get this dvd package, along with a Road Warriors t-shirt from WWE Shop Zone for $14.98. If you are a wrestling fan, especially of the Road Warriors, it is definitely worth the price, I give this five out of five stars.
